Leonids Okay, just came inside. Saw six Leonid meteors in about ten minutes of viewing. Guess you can call that a shower. Yes, I know they won't be peaking for another hour or so. But we had clouds when the wife left on her date (her escort paid for the prime rib dinner and drinks afterwards, so that's a date to me), and then it was clear when she got home. Now the west is all clouded again, and they are moving to the east. May be able to see nothing in a few minutes. Six meteors in ten minutes. That probably beats the meteor shower we watched so many years ago, me, the wife, two small boys and my mother-in-law. Drove north of town to get away from the lights, and got eaten up by mosquitoes. That one never neared the expected one per minute. These Leonids are fast. First one was clear across the sky, and was just a blink in time. Number six was short and fat. Six meteors in ten minutes. Actually pretty good, for where we live. While the state's air is pretty clear, we have a streetlight at the intersection on our southeast corner, and another just across the neighbors' driveway on the northeast. Not to mention a whole freakin' refinery one block to the northeast. Guess I'll check again in a half hour or so. Wife said to wake her if they get really spectacular. Bet the clouds screw her chances. |
