turning down an offer "Would you like me to turn down your cabin, now?" This from a young woman, in casual western dress, who had just come around the corner. We had both startled each other in the cool evening air, but she had recovered more quickly. I was standing on the flagstone outside our cabin door, looking out through the trees and across the manicured green hillside. The shadows were long across the mountains and river just a short hike away. In ten minutes one of the kitchen staff would come out, dressed in white, and ring the huge dinner bell down below, on the other side of the swimming pool, which was on the other side of the tennis courts, which were on the other side of the golf green, which was at the bottom of our low hill. When the young fellow had carried our suitcase ("This is all you have?") into our portion of the cabin, he had mentioned we had one of the best views on the ranch. I turned to the pretty young brunette... Well, that would depend on exactly what you mean by that. This query surprised her. "I'd just close the blinds, and turn down the sheets on your bed." Heh. (Yeah, I said that out loud...) Welcome to the life of people staying in $780 a night mountain resorts. No, I answered. I think we can take care of that ourselves. Thanks. And off she shuffled, to "turn down" the next cabin on her route. |
