bighorn meeting

So, this

is where our meeting was held yesterday afternoon and evening, and again this morning (but actually, it is tomorrow already, so those days need to be pushed back one day, now).

Yeah, I know what it looks like. And there was some clowning around, but a lot of serious work, too.

Meeting attendance was 23 males, one female. And she was there as a recorder. Four other women were there at the cabin, including the hostess, but they came to cook, clean and visit amongst themselves.

Felt like I stepped back a half-century. Especially when Monday evening was spent drinking beer and whiskey, and telling stories.

The night was spent sleeping in the cab of the truck. To make a long story short; the cabins were full of married couples; the bunkhouse was full (At least they said it was, right after I warned them that I snore. Interesting thing is, they had just seconds earlier told me there were two bunks left.); there was already a snorer sleeping in the woods when the last of us retired at 11 o'clock; the two tents were too small to even ask to share; the offer of sharing one of the outfit's cabins involved driving 12 miles down a twisting canyon road in the dark and up a dirt road to a place I'd never been (and besides, having been sipping whiskey), and the offer of having another of the outfit's cabins all to myself involved, and I roughly quote, "going east from the junction until the first real hill, and making a left at the top, then down a ways until a fork, taking the left fork for a ways more until you find a fence, going through a gate in said fence (keeping the horses from getting out, in the dark), then driving across the horse pasture, being aware the horse trailer may or may not be in the road, necessitating a detour across the meadow, then following the road as it weaves through the timber to the cabin". (And remember, I'd been sipping whiskey. While certainly legal to drive, I suspect I would have ended up in Whinybutt's state (which wasn't that far).)

So, I slept in the cab.

But it was cool at the meeting, almost quiet (lots of Western wood-pewees, and some traffic on the other side of the pines). And Porta-Potties just out the south door.

And you should have seen the view out the west...

In addition to the horses, had deer, moose and sandhill cranes in that meadow in the morning.

Attendance also included a few flies, hornets and mosquitoes, but not enough to be pests of themselves.

Oh, and two dogs, unrelated through blood or ownership.

The border collie pup was adorable, and got snatched up into empty laps several times. (And tried to pull the laptop projector off the table once, snagging himself in the powercord. And had to have a tent cord extracted from his jaws another time, lest he drop a corner of it on the boss.)

And if you're curious, that is good ol' GF One-Two-Three's lap that the pup's in. Except he's good ol' GF One-Two-One, now. The drop of two digits means more than you would think, looking at the numbers.

And those sharp puppy teeth! Attacking jeans, camera cords, and yes, hands when he could get them.

But it's almost already healed up.
