banners from October

I suppose it probably doesn't make much sense to post new banners, offering folks a chance to come check out your journal, when you haven't been updating regularly. But I have fun making these things and, yes, showing off my photography a little bit. So for those of you not on the Dland system, here's what I've got running now:

Yes, that looks familiar. Another stand of aspens with yellow leaves, also from the Seminoes. Just a different year.

For those not in the know, that's a benchmark up there in that banner. A small brass disk set into solid rock to serve as a permanent marker of an exact location for surveying purposes. And if you're new here, no, I'm not a surveyor. Just like hunting for those things. Found well over 200 now. All the snow on the ground kinda puts a damper on this hobby, but I found a couple last week by sweeping the snow off steps of some public buildings.

That's our October full moon rising over Bradley Peak. Enhanced the contrast a little to get the picture to look more like the way the moonrise actually looked, but it really was that big.

Winter has arrived with almost a blink of an eye this year. Temps in the 70s and 80s one week, a foot of snow and highs in the teens the week after. And that snow is still here. If I was living in it full time like that pronghorn buck, I think I'd be giving all the white a blank stare, too.

Not sure why this buck antelope was standing on top of this high ridge at the south end of the Seminoes, other than to have a nice view.

If you're one of those people who likes to look at picture file names, then you know what this is. The end of a long day of check station duty, a day of slicing deer necks to get samples for chronic wasting disease. Rare that the hunting traffic slowed down enough to allow me a few minutes to enjoy the sunset.

Unlike the photos in the other seven banners, which were all taken in October, this shot is from this month. The upper reaches of the Wind River Canyon were shrouded in cold mists on both my trip up to the sage grouse wing bee, and the return leg.

As I said... winter is here.
