Labor Day monday

Labor Day monday

Looked like it was going to be a busy day. Truck pulled up as I was setting up my check station signs, with a whitetail in the back. Had another truck with a pronghorn arrive before I was done with the deer.

It was a full six hours before I checked another antelope.

Talk about slowwwwwww.

Of course, I did manage to check two elk, a moose, a couple sage grouse (the falconers) and a couple mule deer during the day, so it wasn't that bad.

And there were a couple clouds, so it was a little cooler. Still ran the air conditioning about 20 minutes of every hour for the heelers.

Don't remember how I used to do this before air conditioning, but I (and our heelers) did.

Still got run over by a dust devil, just like on Saturday and Sunday.

A vehicle broke down by my signs, and the driver crippled it in to the station (i.e. my truck) to use my cell phone. Learned all about the modern in situ uranium extraction process while waiting for a tow truck.

And his divorce problems.

Interesting Dispatch report of the morning:

Apparently 15 semis were playing "tag" on the Interstate, blocking all other traffic from passing.

Interesting Dispatch report of the afternoon:

A Forest Ranger was investigating a report of a naked man trying to run people off the road in the forest.

One of the wardens had to leave the hunting area to go check a report of someone (a friend...I recognized her name) hitting an antelope on the golf course, and breaking its leg.

Antelope was reportedly south of the eighth fairway.

Interesting part was that the road is north of the golf course, so how did the antelope get to the south side?

Turns out she broke its leg with her golf ball.

Yep, ball came down on a drive and hit the antelope on the rear leg, snapping it in two.

Really.

Never heard of that before. Gonna pay more attention next time I hear someone yell "Fore!"

All three heelers were sleeping in the living room when wife and youngest son finally got home. Thought their tails were gonna wag off their butts.

Except for maskless heeler. She checked the Explorer twice and then searched the house looking for her boy.

She still isn't over it.
