Yesterday, when I went out to pick the meager collection of raspberries from my patch I spotted a beautiful, dark red leaf. On one of the vines that has invaded the garden.

Today there are two red leaves on one of the gooseberries.

Getting nippy at night. Wife put the comforter on the bed last Friday. Of course the windows are still open all night, with the fans going, so it must still be summer.

But the stores are full of back-to-school supplies. A bunch of diaries are talking about going back to school.

Wife and I are soon to be in debt up to our elbows to get eldest son off to college.

And this morning I checked my first antelope hunter. True, he was bowhunting, and hadn't killed anything yet, but it was still the first hunter of the year.

For me, fall arrives a week from tomorrow.

I need another month of summer.
