atomic scars

It was one of those little teaser headlines on the Yahoo! page.

The most bombed place on earth.

'Course I knew right away what the article would be referring to...

The Nevada Test Site.

But it occurred to me... just where exactly is that? I mean, besides being in Nevada?

You know how much I like searching for things on Google Earth. Without using a map. And I already know what the depression crater from an underground nuclear explosion looks like. How hard can it be to find a place with hundreds of those craters?

It wasn't hard at all.

But then the next thought... what about the older, above-ground explosions? You still ought to be able to see those. No way the vegetation can be back to normal after just a half-century or so.

Yeah. You can find those, too.

Cool.

Maybe next time I'm bored I can go looking for the old Soviet atomic test sites. Or the Chinese...
