mandarin menu Youngest son wanted Wendy's, but the wife wouldn't hear of it. Not if we' ve just driven all the way to University Town. So Sunday's dinner was our usual favorite. The Mandarin restaurant. Yes, the Pu-pu platter was great. And we used chopsticks, as usual. But part of the fun was scanning their menu for translational errors while we waited. Yes, there's typos. "Spritc" instead of "Sprite". (Well, maybe I should think about this. Maybe I'm the one who's wrong. Is there a drink called "Spritc"?) Or "fired rice" instead of "fried rice". But the really fun ones are the errors that are obviously made by someone being lost in translation. Like the "Greee Onion pancakes". (Yes, they have the typo in "Green">) Which is described as: "Made by flowers and fried until crisp." We'd love to go back into the kitchen and watch those flowers making pancakes. And then there's this... Yes, I know that technically that description is accurate, but I think I would find the soup more palatable if they said "black mushrooms" rather than "black fungus". And then there's our favorite... Someday we'll order the General Chicken just so we can watch the staff "sit aside a spicy sauce." Ought to be fun |
