Ghost Rider

Yeah. Two movies in the theater, two nights in a row.

Unusual for us. But hey, it's been a dry spell since the holidays, not our fault two interesting movies show up at the same time.

So. The flaming skeleton guy on a flaming bike...

Not bad. Predictable, yes. Simplistic, yes. It is another Marvel comic, after all.

But good special effects. Good casting. Only two things that bothered me, and not that much.

First off, I don't care if you do live in a comic book world, the police, and the world at large, are going to be a lot more excitable about flaming skeletons riding flaming motorcycles up and down their buildings. I mean, the world's gonna be talking about the end of days, and things like that, you know? We're talking mass hysteria, here.

Well, maybe not in California, but even there, they'd get pretty excited.

They're not gonna just put out an APB for him.

And secondly... and this one really gets to me... they apparently spent all their money on the special effects, and ignored the more mundane expenditures on things like, well, sets.

Maybe the director was after a "comic book" look, but with the village of the dead, all they got was a "cheap" look. The high school drama group here does better painting with their sets.

And those flowers under the big tree? Come on!. All exactly the same height, all neatly spaced exactly the same distance apart, regardless of where they were supposed to growing. And not a patch of blue in the distance, either.

Somebody needs to go outside of the studio at least once during the spring to see what real wild flowers look like.
