weekend tidbits

In other tidbit news...

Whilst 90 percent of you North Americans were watching the pre-game show, the heeler sisters and I were outside, sitting in the truck.

No, not going anywhere. To their disappointment. No, I was just extracting and converting the GPS coordinates of all the critters we saw on Friday's flight.

Yes, the GPS is portable. That's how it gets into the plane when we fly. But it has no permanent memory. If the batteries die, all stored waypoints are lost. And since we spent $435 to collect those waypoints, and don't really want to go flying all of those circling patterns again, I consider it too risky to try to download the data on battery power.

Hence the sitting in the semi-cold truck with the GPS plugged into the vehicle's power system.

No, the heelers had absolutely no function to play in that work.

But do you think I'm going to be able to go outside and sit in a truck without them insisting on coming along?

Yeah. They were disappointed.

Other weekend news... I baked another batch of chocolate chip cookies. Since most of last weekend's batch got mailed off to youngest son at university.

Interesting that he asks if we've got any of "Dad's chocolate chip cookies".

Aaaand, we had a heat wave. Thermometer on the porch said we got all the way up to 42 degrees today. After the second coldest January on record. The huge snowpile I've been building around the aspen must have shrunk 6-8 inches just today.

Critters will be happy.

And so, to bed.
