dead man's chest Okay, I admit it. I read some reviews before we went to see this flick tonight. Most of them weren't rousing endorsements. I suspect it probably averaged a B-. So my hopes were not too high. And, more importantly, I was already aware this second film is basically just setting the stage for the third in the trilogy. Okay. Lots of trilogies do that. Lord of the Rings, both Star Wars sets, Matrix. I'm okay with that. And I'm okay with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. In fact, a little more than okay. Not a great film, of course, but a fun film. With quite a few surprises, even after watching all the trailers. Laughed out loud more than once, never once wondered "when is this going to be over?", never once looked at a computer animation and said "that's a computer animation." Certainly a B, maybe a B+. Only defect I saw was of my own making. Several times I watched Bill Nighy's mannerisms and expected to see a vampire, not Davey Jones. Worth the seeing. But this is of course old news to most of you, since Yahoo reports the film set all time records for opening day and opening weekend. For those of you who also watch the credits to the very end (Chuck even left the lights off, just for us.), there is a tiny tidbit of dessert waiting there. (An "Easter Egg" in media parlance, according to eldest son.) Guess we'll have to think about seeing Superman next. |
