bison hunt 1

We came across the first one downtown.

A bison. Standing there on the storefront.

A statue, of course. Of bronze, I believe, but that doesn't show. This one was painted like the earth, with the red hot core on the head, snow-capped mountains on the hump, a volcano on the right hip, and rivers running down the back to the blue sea on the rump.

The "blue-butted" bison.

Remembered hearing about them, as soon as we saw the first one. According to the wife, there are well over a hundred of these bison statues scattered around town, a project sponsored by the local art museum. So, we started hunting them.

Didn't have to look far.

Just down the block was another, this one with a painting on its side, and reins across the horns.

A local bank had a white one. Closer examination found the white to actually be a layer of epoxy, with broken pieces of white china imbedded. With some sort of documents plastered across the rear half. Need to read those the next time I get a chance.

Up by the college, we found a jigsaw bison.

One of the more dignified pieces was down by the Wells Fargo office, next to Chief Washakie. Painted with a landscape, with light blue and white sky.

Some are more whimsical. Hunted up this bison in a residential area. Close examination finds that the blue "blanket" is covered with small bison ("buffalo") and comes with a thin sash.

A robe.

A "buffalo robe".

Wife caught on to that one first.

While waiting for the eldest son's prescription to be filled, I cruised the main street and found this bison by a local radio station.

Covered with decoupaged pictures. Most of famous art, including at least two Mona Lisas. Almost all of women, in various stages of dress, with darn few men.

Even the bugs on the statue were ladies.

I took the time to read the plaque for this one. Was titled "Art Class 101", and had the names of the three women whose creation it was listed.

Now, these statues are all identical, and almost anatomically correct. So is it wicked of me that I wonder how the conversation went amongst these three females?

As they decided who got to decoupage the bison penis? And whose picture was going to go down there?
