professional driver

Man, I should write about popular television more often. You should see the hits I'm getting for "Joe Millionaire" and "Zora Joe Millionaire". Just incredible. Certainly more than I ever get for "sage grouse strutting" or "counting antelope".

Since we're talking about television, something which the wife and I watch entirely too much of, but is also the little time the wife and I do anything together, I have one more television observation.

Had yet another car commercial on last night, as we were sitting in bed watching. One of the sleek car driving across lanes up the winding, twisting mountain highway. With the fine, faint print disclaimer at the bottom: "Professional driver on closed course."

A disclaimer not so that we, the average public, will not think that is the way to drive in the mountains (it is, but you have to look miles ahead down the road to make sure nobody else is coming up... learned that in my summer working for the Forest Service), but so that we cannot sue the automobile manufacturer if we are stupid and run into somebody else by driving like that.

But the point here?

Been seeing those commercials and disclaimers for eons. But last night it struck me. And I vocalized it out loud.

What do you have to do to become a "professional driver"?

I mean, are there schools somewhere where they teach you how to cut corners and drive down the middle of the highway? Someplace besides the USFS?

The funny point?

Wife spun around with delight in her voice, and remarked "I was just wondering the same thing!"

"Do you think we've been together too long?"
