bad news x3

Wife called from work today to deliver the bad news.

No more Clementines.

She listens to the local radio at work, and heard a news item that Clementine tangerines from Spain were contaminated with fruit flies. So no more imported clementines from Spain.

Bummer.

Yes, they produce these things in California, and we have also bought some imported from somewhere in South America. So there will probably still be clementines in the store once in a while. Law of supply and demand says their prices should go up now. And they were no where near as good as the Spanish clementines, which were my first.

First is almost always best, you notice?

The lab wanted all deer and elk teeth from this fall in by 1 December (it takes a lot of time to prepare and count the annual rings in these things, and the process goes better if they do them in large batches (have to soak to soften them up)). Of course, that meant 3 December this year, since the lab techs don't normally work on weekends. And mine probably arrived today. Close enough to be okay.

I got another set last night at burger night, and found some in the mail. Promptly mailed in as a second batch today.

So, who should stop by this evening, for the first time since the masked heeler got run over (six weeks if you're counting)? One of my wardens with, you guessed it, 21 sets of teeth.

More addresses to look up, and data to enter. Quickly.

And the worst news today? (But no surprise, given the weather.)

The helicopter for our winter deer surveys has been delayed by high winds in areas up north. I've got one warden laid up following surgery, and the other goes on leave Saturday. If the chopper had gotten here this week, she would have flown. Now it will have to be me.

Last time I did all the surveys north of town, I vomited (Badsnake, I would say "hurled", but since I always fly with an empty stomach, I have nothing to hurl.) 10 times in one day. The deep, painful types, where you're trying to bring your toenails up and out your throat. Took me three days to get my voice back close to normal.

Should get to repeat that wonderful experience early next week.

Oh, joy.

And before anyone suggests it, dramamine and scopalamine don't work. Been sick on both drugs, and would rather crash the chopper than have to go through that again.
