mud bogs

For Alex:

"Mud bogs"

1)You take part of your rodeo arena (the part by the stands) and dig a long pit with a backhoe, and then fill it with water to make good mud.

Then you take perfectly good pickups, ATVs, Jeeps and other 4x4s (all with magnum tires) and drag race in pairs through the mud to see who can get to the other side of the mud in the least amount of time (or at all).

A big hit with some folks.

Especially the folks who own the auto carwashes.

And the mechanics who get paid to replace all those transmissions and clutches before hunting seasons in the fall.

or

2) a seep or sump out in the country that has the appearance of being perfectly solid ground, but which actually only has 2" of dry ground over 3 feet of alkaline clay mud.

Usually at least 15 miles from anywhere, and always down in a hole that blocks radio or cell phone transmissions.

Definition 1) is better than 2). Have no experience with 1), but more than my share with 2).
