5 geminids Okay, so I just had to check one more time. And at 02:22 this morning, we had crystal clear skies. I mean, I could see the individual Pleiades, and the stars in Orion's sword. (Hey Sis, ask you-know-who what the red star is halfway between Orion and the Pleiades...) And the milky galaxy of stars beyond. So, in fifteen minutes of standing in the shadow of the house, looking at less than half the sky, I had 5 Geminid meteors. Cool. And some unidentified rustling in the plastic wrapped roofing tiles near my feet. A light 'thump' from our neighbors backyard, and some ice crackling from out in the street. Yeah, I wasn't staring straight up at the sky all the time I was out there. Oh yeah, also... four UFCs (Unidentified Flying Critters) flitting overhead at treetop level. Probably birds, but way too small for owls (at least the great-horns we have). Way too cold for bats to be out (either hibernating or migrated out), and they flew more like birds than bats. But I have no idea what species they may have been. |
