This was the third or fourth year of this fund raising event. Restaurants and caterers of the county are invited to provide samples of free food. And community members pay to taste their wares.

And United Way benefits.

It was a record-breaking event...

They figure about 400 paying diners. Almost twice last year's attendance. Quite a few vendors ran out of food, and had to restock. Including our favorite Chinese restaurant, where the wife volunteered as a server.

It's interesting...

There were a couple dozen volunteers there, like the wife all identified by their white t-shirts with the "Live United" slogan.

And then there was me, kinda drug along because the wife figured I could be useful.

And who gets accolades from the event organizer?

Not the regular volunteers who have spent hours getting the thing organized and ready, and then hours more at their assigned tasks.

No, it's the guy who wandered around taking pictures, 'cause no one else remembered a camera. And also set up four more tables because they were full to overflowing, and all the chairs to boot. And emptied trash cans 'cause they filled faster than the husband of the organizer could keep up with.

You want thanks from the boss?

Be the one who jumps in and takes care of her problems of the moment. Not one of the ones who does all the actual work.

Like her poor husband...
