moving snow I took this shot 13 days ago. That's nine miles from town and, at that time, as far as you could go. That's a lot of snow. Their boss said they were making 500 yards a day. A day. Starting around four in the morning, when everything was nicely frozen, and quitting around three in the afternoon, when everything was getting soft and mushy. Last week he said they stopped at Sixteenmile. Which, by the way, is not sixteen miles out. It's only thirteen. Go figure. (Should I mention that, as I type this, I'm saying everything to myself in my head in a glorious Scottish brogue, like Craig Ferguson? Try it. It sounds cool.) He said they'll let Mother Nature clear the rest of the road, at her own speed. Well, it appears her speed differs from what he had in mind. I haven't been out there today, seeing as how the highways are closed and such. But I'm pretty sure after this blizzard... They're back to Mile One. |
