Easter peach blossom Whew. Feels like a whirlwind tour in two and a half days. The weather was threatening, both coming and going, but never did manage to make the highways nasty. Traffic, on the other hand... geez, it was good to get back to the land of open spaces and open lanes. Family was good, the visit was good, if too brief. The heelers hated living in the basement, as usual. The wife's eyes teared up as she packed their food bag for the trip. There were still three bowls, you see. But probably the most remarkable thing about this Easter weekend was the ice. Freezing mists and fog on Friday, that had turned into glorious hoar frost by Saturday morning. And stayed. That doesn't happen in our country. Yes, we get hoar frost, often more impressive than this weekend's in the Green state, but it rarely stays. Usually the sun or wind, or a combination of both, destroys the icy fairyland within an hour or three. Not this weekend. The ice that covered everything not part of Mother Earth on Saturday grew even more by Easter Sunday. Made all the more impressive by the Spring blossoms caught unawares in this late blast of winter. (Notice I was not so optimistic as to call this the "last" blast of winter.) I came home with 611 pictures. Not all worth the electrons it took to save them, of course, but some were. Here's one. |
