pronghorn on the divide Meeting at nine o'clock. The annual meeting that I'm never invited to, but usually crash anyway. They seem to be happy I'm there, so I'm not sure why I don't get invited... But that's okay. We invite them to our annual meeting, and they almost never come. And half of them didn't make their own meeting this year. But aaanyway... with a meeting so early (thanks to daylight savings time), I had a choice between no lek surveys at all, or checking some leks close to town. Gee, you know what I did. I've mentioned this lek "route" before, but I'm too lazy to look up the link. One of the earliest "Grouse Pics" was from this "route". Called "Dawn on the Divide". Some route. You park on top of the Continental Divide (literally), set your spotting scope out the window, and check two different leks (one of which is almost always empty these days, but still you gotta look). Then you turn your truck 90 degrees, and check the third. But since this third lek is more than three miles away, I sat there for over an hour, waiting for any break in the clouds to let some sunlight hit the lek and light up their white breasts. Heelers had fun poopin' on the Divide, wind blowing up their tails. Took a "few" pictures, naturally, while I was waiting for gap in the clouds. Here's one. "Pronghorn on the Divide". |
