rim flight Looking at the windsock as we took off, you can tell how our flight went. ![]() If that isn't enough, just take a gander at the lenticular clouds over Elk Mountain. Yeah. It was windy. Windy = bumpy. But we found 10 out of ten collared elk. The first six were close, and fast. Pilot was swinging on each of them before I had time to record the data from the one before. Next two were more leisurely. Last two were a pain in the butt. We flew south, which is where they would have been about this time last year. And they weren't. We flew east to where they were two weeks ago. And they weren't. We flew to the Sandhills, just in case they were there. And they weren't. Twenty-two minutes later (that's US$106 later) we found them north of the dunes, near the first six. If, after number six, we had geed instead of hawing towards number seven, we would have been right on top of them. Since we were already out towards the desert, we took a cursory pass over the rim that started all this flying on our way home. ![]() |
