Eragon Despite the heavy snowfall and closed highways (as evidenced by all the parked semis jamming the town parking lots), wife and youngest son held to their plan of going to see Eragon this evening. Oookay. There are no blockbusters this holiday season, but a dragon movie should be fun. Although hardly "Christmasy". And fun it was. Have never read the book, but the entire plot was entirely predictable. But I guess legends always pretty much are, even the modern ones. If you liked The Chronicles of Narnia, you'd probably think this one's okay, too. But not great. The film as a whole seemed hurried, like there was just too much story to cram into ~105 minutes. Being an old Dragonriders of Pern fan, the thrill of becoming acquainted with a dragon could easily keep me entertained for a couple hours, without any additional plotline. Their dragon was almost okay. As with Dragonheart, the designers tried too hard to give the giant flying reptile a human face. Hey, folks. They don't need one. They're dragons, remember? You want to see the perfect dragon? See Dragon Slayer. So far, no one has topped theirs. Yes, Reign of Fire's dragons were close. But that's only because they scored bonus points by killing Matthew McConaughey. |
