Elk flight this morning was canceled.

Due to rain.

Rain!

Not enough to really help, but still, any wet ground is good. Pilot canceled with a call around seven o'clock. And then, when our local clouds dried up later in the morning, he called again. Just to let me know we were still canceled.

Too cloudy down south where we needed to fly.

Did he get this news from the flight weather service?

No.

The weather channel?

No.

Another pilot passing over?

No.

While the miles may be long, this is a small place, remember? He simply called up one of the ranchers 50 miles down south and asked him if he could see the mountains.

Nope.

So, we no fly.

Possibly could have flown this afternoon, but I had a doctor's appointment, and I knew the pilot would be celebrating his daughter's birthday.

This I know because, for a day, years ago, our wives had adjacent rooms in the maternity ward.

The doctor's appointment? Good news and bad news.

Bad news first. Blood pressure still too high. More pills to take.

Oh, joy.

Good news?

Lost seven pounds.

Which pleased the Doc. Wife suggested I should have emptied my pockets and lost another five.

And now, to bed. Try flying elk again in seven and a half hours.
