in a mouse's eye Somewhere in the middle of our burying a dove, the little maskless heeler noticed we were not alone. But all anyone else saw was a brown blur dashing into a hole at the corner of the garage. Later, I was surprised when eldest son announced "The mouse is back." Sure enough, nestled there against the warm concrete wall, was a mouse. A plain Jane brown little mouse. Mus musculus. The European house mouse. The same species of mouse that we captured inside our house and released in the garage weeks ago. Right exactly across the wall from this little rodent. Hmmmm. Now, it's not likely this is the same little mouse, but it certainly seemed calm enough. Practically ignoring all of us as it sat there warming itself. Long enough for me to run into the house and retrieve the close-up lens for the camera. Even though I was sure the mouse wasn't going to sit still and allow me to get close enough for that lens to work. It didn't. Instead, the little mouse crawled up the concrete wall, to check out the encroaching camera. Ever seen the sky... reflected in a mouse's eye? |
