checking alone

Another day of sitting along a busy highway, checking game and trying to pull retropharyngeal lymph glands from deer.

Naturally, as expected since my help had gone back home, I was considerably busier today than yesterday. Over forty animals checked, and 10-12 CWD samples taken. Fortunately, most of the day was steadily busy, instead of major bursts of activity.

The wife had the Sunday paper, so I had brought out the Saturday issue, with its much simpler crossword puzzle.

Never had a chance to put a word in. Not one. In addition to the extra time spent cutting out CWD samples, there's all the time immediately afterward sterilizing the scalpel and tongs, so they're ready for the next deer.

Did have one rush, around football time. Hunters headed to town to watch the game. Fortunately, it coincided with when the wife arrived to rescue the heelers from their boredom, so I got to have my secretary back for a brief while. A little nostalgia from before we were married.

Had several people ask about the heelers after they were gone. Including a fellow from New Mexico.

Guess they're getting famous.

Otherwise, here's a few images from the day:

Does it kinda defeat the purpose of exercise if you drive your mountain bike a mile out of town in your truck so you can ride it?

Nice place to ride, though.

Still have a fair number of people hunting antelope. Almost as many as hunting deer, today. And happened to have a moderately sized trophy doe come through.

And for those of you who ordered the huge windmills for power generation...

They're on their way.

Four of 'em, anyway.

A pleasant day ended with a nice sunset, with only one truck of hunters arriving at the same time (with elk).

And the moon kept trying to peek through the clouds to light my way home.
