odds and ends

Was perusing this site, wishing I had enough disposable income to even dream of bidding on a piece of Camelot, when I came across it.

A book.

A book owned by John and Jacqueline Kennedy. Or more accurately, by Jackie alone, since it was published after JFK had been killed.

A book identical to one that I own. Given to me by my folks. An obscure book, one that I doubt any of you have ever heard of.

Yes, I know, it's just a book. More a reference book than anything else. Maybe just a little too boring to be a coffee table book, with too few pretty pictures.

But just the same,

Jackie and I owned the same book.

Cool.

Whilst trying to find something to watch on TV on SuperBowl Sunday, other than all the pre-bowl stuff, I happened to hit a channel showing Finding Nemo.

Yes, I know this movie is old news to all of you. But you see, we have never seen that flick. And given how we have been near-disgusted/bored by so many movies that receive rave public attention, we weren't in any hurry to watch it.

But being as how selection was limited that day, I stayed.

Now, as all of you probably already know, it is a great little movie. Predictable without being smaltzy.

Love their characterization of gulls.

But there's no point in reviewing what is ancient history for the rest of the world.

I just wanta ask...

How many of you have watched the credits?

I mean, like so many films that have snuck in little tidbits for those of us who stick around until the end, they have thrown in some funny things here.

Best of all, the final little cameo from another Pixar film character.

And since we're asking questions, anybody else get a sudden rash of daily spam in their mailboxes starting last weekend? The garbage messages in my boxes just about doubled or tripled.

Since they say 90 percent of all spam comes from just a handful of perpetrators, and one bozo in Texas was just recently prosecuted, I have to guess we've got at least a couple new players in the game.

At least, near as I can tell, they're not selling cialis.

And whilst reading the news, I came across a report from the last census. Where they mapped out the relative density of same-sex couples across the USA. Counties were coloured green for higher densities of gay couples.

Lots of green around California, New York, New England, as you might expect.

White for areas with few gay couples. Mainly the plains states, and southeast. And yellow for all the places in between.

What pleased me so much about their map was our county. Surrounded by whites and yellows, we were green.

Cool again.
