old wagons They've got one out on the new golf course, acquired from who-knows-where, but parked along one of the greens as if it had been there for the past century or so. The owner of one of our larger ranches, a fellow who lives and made his money in a major urban area out of state, bought two somewhere, as well. Setting one alongside the main road into the ranch, which he apparently thought too barren and empty, and the other on top of a small knoll by the highway. Folks tolerated the first as just landscaping, but I heard more than one cowboy make fun of the second. I mean, who would park their sheep wagon on top of a knoll? Camping up there in all the wind? 'Course, turned out the knoll was on public land, and after a time, the land management agency convinced the landowner to park his landscaping object somewhere else. But this one, this one is still sitting right where it was left, so many decades ago. Either too broken to repair, or simply replaced by a more modern conveyance. A relic of a bygone era, in its natural habitat. |
