still deer season

The way this young buck and his buddy, or perhaps brother, were casually feeding alongside the road, just a few miles from where the Continental Divide splits in two, you'd have a hard time believing it's still deer season.

But it is. It was another elk season opening day, too, but all I checked was one deer. Did see over a hundred elk, but most of those were on the wrong side of a fence for most hunters.

The masked heeler enjoyed the outing, until the guns went off. And she enjoyed my feeble attempts to take her sister's place in drag races down the road. She won, of course, before the races even began, but it lifted her spirits just the same.

The morning fog was nice. The horrific wind was not, especially with morning temperatures in the thirties.

The leaves were pretty, but more than half are on the ground already.

Winter's not that far off.
