powerpoint success

Just for the record, the PowerPoint presentations this morning on the elk die-off went well.

Perhaps even a little better than "well".

The beginnings were not auspicious. The expected computer projector was not yet in the classroom, and its cart was too large to get through the door.

A problem apparently frequently encountered at this school, as the teacher and students were unperturbed and immediately began attacking the accordion wall of their room, and moved the wall to get the projector inside.

The instructor knew how to wire the projector to the full-sized Mac computer, but did not know where to plug in the mouse.

Really.

First time in my life that I'd touched a Mac, but I figured it out in less than three seconds.

You see the round plug with the plastic bar and four metal pins? Well, that goes into the round hole with a slot and four little holes.

Between the two of us, we had the computer and projector up and running almost before the students could get the screen down.

Until I clicked on the PowerPoint icon.

Insufficient memory.

We killed several items on the machine, I hope not important, and still got "Insufficient memory."

Fortunately, the school's computer lab was empty, and their IT gal suggested we just move there.

Program went slick from that point on. Even to drafting a student to click the mouse for the slides, 'cause I just can't talk unless I'm up front with my laser and walking around the room.

Second class, I jabbered too much about lost dogs and lichen pickin', and ran a little short of time.

But I still must have been doing okay. Because the third and final class ended up being a double. Word of my talk got around to the other science teacher in the school, and the word was apparently favorable, because he brought his class in to hear the show, too.

Just a shot of the Wind Rivers, rising up behind my beloved Honeycombs, taken earlier this month.
