spring in the desert

The phlox have been blooming for a couple weeks, now. Little clumps of white, like remnant snow, scattered amongst the sage.

But on Saturday, I noticed a tiny patch of colour up on the Continental Divide:

And today, after we finished yet another run of the standard lek route in the desert (191 cocks total, if you're interested), we found some more colour.

First was a mass of blooming vetch, found as I waited for the heeler sisters to finish their third drag race of the morning.

And then, on the drive out to the interstate, we suddenly found ourselves surrounded by small lumps of bright yellow. Wallflowers, a type of mustard.

I guess spring has arrived in the desert.
