frosted phlox

Once again we awoke to a thin layer of snow on the ground, and country that was damp, but frozen. Truck thermometer said 28 degrees. For safety's sake, I opted to check a few strutting grounds in the sandy country, close to the highway. Had birds on the first and third, but none on the second.

None on the fourth lek of the morning either, although sign indicated they had been using it this year. And although we had driven to it over frozen mud, and that mud was quickly beginning to thaw, I couldn't help but spend a few minutes taking photos of a few other pieces of the range, covered with frost:
