new space farer and banners

First off, best wishes to Lt. Col. Yang Liwei!

And now, now that I have just now gotten the huge environmental project comments into the mail (12 hours before deadline!), and have a whole bunch of deer seasons opening in less than five hours (Sleep? HA! We laugh at those who need sleep!) for which I will be manning a check station along a major highway all by my lonesome, slashing deer necks to pull lymph glands for CWD testing on top of everything else...

Now it is time for the banner results.

Tops was this one:

which was my expected best, at 2 percent click-through.

The crowd favorite elk butts

tied with the sipping pronghorn

for second place, with 1.4 percent click-throughs.

None of which came close to the old record holder,

at 2.8 percent.

Just for general info, I think all the photos in these eight recent banners were taken in August. The two bull elk were feeding just off the north highway at sunrise, spotted en route to a meeting of all things.

The sipping pronghorn buck was on a classification route. We had parked in the dunes to record his count ("one") and location, and he wandered over, unconcerned, and drank from his puddle in our road. Had to lean out the window to get that shot, as he was right in front of the dirty windshield.

The owl was almost certainly a different owl than I had photographed and used in a banner last year (looked to be this year's youngster), but was in the same abandoned building, and was probably a relative.

And if you're curious, the sunset photos were not enhanced. They really were that red. Thanks to smog from gas fields and range fires.

Now, lest I become so fatigued as to slice off my own fingers with a scalpel tomorrow later today, I must to bed.
