flags and eggs

As normal, the fraternal group that sponsors our youth group had a special ceremony in honor of Flag Day. And wanted our group to present the Colors.

'Course, they didn't ask until yesterday.

Needless to say, the head of our phone tree was not able to round up any volunteers at such short notice, and for a Saturday. And, because of the heavy internet usage at our house, including, but not limited to my own, he didn't let us know.

So, the wife and I were the only ones from our group to show up. In uniform.

No, they let us off on presenting the Colors, and being part of the ceremony. Other than us and the six men involved in the rituals, only seven folks showed up.

I enjoy their ceremonies, but I'd enjoy them even more if they would find the time to practice. The way they shuffle officers around, I don't think many get to do the same job two years in a row. So they have to read their lines. Which greatly detracts from the effectiveness of the words. Not to mention when one needs better glasses so he can read sentences, rather than syllables.

Easy stuff to say when you've never had to do it yourself.

Still, as the wife said, at least we made an appearance. They'll remember our group still exists. Do better next year, as they say.

Came home and found out that, due to rapid growth of some of our feral trees, we only had room for two of our flags (see above). Figure we've got eight or so now, two of which haven't flown in over forty years. They did get unfurled today, but we need to figure a way of getting them up by the Fourth.

And you know, when you park the eggs on the top shelf of the refrigerator, the ones in the back sometimes get too cold.

And they're kinda hard to scramble when frozen.
