Okay, I was gonna do this entry later, and actually get to sleep tonight, but since Melissa is sitting there matching me keystroke for keystroke, I'd better do it now.

I hate eating crow. Such a distasteful diet.

But there's 128 elk in that photo quiz a few days back. Melissa and Mayhem are right (and more meticulous about counting elk, it seems).

Since she was kind enough to provide her picture complete with red-dotted elk, I was able to find where I went wrong.

In the upper left part of the herd, there is what appears to be an elk bedded down, right behind a standing elk.

But if you look in the photo I took immediately after that one (a smaller version of which is in the second entry before this one), that dark object looks nothing like an elk.

So I didn't count it.

But since two careful observers apparently thought that was an elk, I checked the third photo of the series.

Dark shape gone.

So either it suddenly, magically snowed on just that little brown spot, or these two inexperienced observers were right, and it was an elk which was now standing.

So the correct count is 128 elk.
