nightgown pocket

One of the wife's co-workers took a class in the history of clothing design in college.

I have no idea what degree that was intended towards.

And I have no idea how this came up in conversation at their office, but the question was asked why women's nightgowns have a pocket.

And only one pocket.

According to their expert, it is a leftover from Victorian days. The end of the 19th century.

When the woman needed a pocket in bed for her pair of small, white cotton gloves.

Gloves used when it came time for the wife to "manipulate" her husband's marital equipment.

Really.

Wife's face was flushed as she told me this, and got redder as we spoke. I was surprised such a thing embarrassed her. Then I realized.

It wasn't embarrassment.

I need to find a place locally that sells thin, white cotton gloves.

She says she's a size seven.
