reality

The wife and I are not into reality tv. Watched one episode of the first Survivor show, and none of the others since. Likewise, one episode of The Bachelor. And now, one episode of The Bachelorette. And none of these were intentional, just happened to be the best option available when we were surfing.

So, as we were channel surfing for something to fill the hour before CSI tonight, we hit "Joe Millionaire. And stuck around to see what the women looked like.

And stayed.

And stayed.

Now, this was one of those rapid reruns, where they replayed episodes one and two back to back.

When the time came, the wife switched to CSI, but warned we would be coming back during the commercials. I put my vote in for staying with Joe. Which she quickly agreed to.

I'm ashamed to admit it.

Really.

But since I already have, here's what we've got to say.

Four of our top five picks made it to the top final five. We both fell in love with Zora immediately, as they were approaching the chateau. And added Sarah as soon as she put on her beret in the vineyard. Just gorgeous.

Mind you, that's not why we favored them, but certainly helped. But they both also know how to shovel shit. And aren't afraid of horses.

And I threw in Allison because she looked like Isabel Glasser. And Melissa M. because she was quiet and looks great if she lets her hair fall loose.

MoJo was number two on the Dump list, right after Heidi. But there she is, getting all the attention she was striving for.

The problem we both have, and have discussed without resolution, is this: Who do we root for now?

I mean, finding out you have won your fairy tale, only to discover it is a fake, would be a horribly cruel thing to wish upon anyone. And certainly not on the first four I named. So out of our kind feelings for these four women, should we not wish them ill, and hope they are not chosen?

And save that bitter fate for the one who most deserves it?

Hate to say it, but they got us hooked. We'll be back on Monday night.

During this discussion I came up with a great idea for another reality show.

Send out ten Prize Award teams for the Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes on Super Bowl Sunday, to ten different winners. Letting them each know they won $10,000,000. On live television.

And then a few hours later, tell nine of them it was just a joke.

But thanks for the video.

("Course they try that in our part of the country, and they may end up short a Prize Team before they can get out of town.)

Haven't mentioned work for a while. Still compiling data from last fall, and even the summer before.

Took most of the day, literally, to sort the piles of paper that have accumulated since the last time I sorted (bottom of the pile had memos from January 2002). A task forced upon me because I couldn't find one warden's data for one antelope area.

Found it, finally.

In the last place I looked, naturally. In the papers that were shoved off the desk onto the box of skulls and feathers when the new computer was set up.

Heelers appreciate the extra floor space, now, but the masked one has knocked down the pile of sorted papers at least three times so far.

Took most of the day to find the data, and only an hour or so to add the numbers up and check for errors (he had some... always does).

I really need to get organized again. And to do that, I need about four more filing cabinets (to go with the five that are already jammed full).
