owls in Pleasantville

So, I'm not the only one who likes to go out on the porch during thunderstorms? (This comment would be in your guestbook, but it doesn't like my species of browser.)

The town's maintenance supervisor came driving by as the masked heeler and I were visiting with the owlets this afternoon.

While he called them "your" owls, he is quite happy with them being here this year, and hopes they will nest here again next year.

No pigeons on the hotel this year.

None.

As in not one.

To quote the authority, we've had "no pigeon problems this year." I guess the only thing better than putting up great-horned owl decoys to scare off pests is to put up a couple owls for real.

I told him of my plan to shift any fledged youngsters into the blue spruce in the median. And kiddingly asked if the town would put up some signs that say "Owl Crossing."

He didn't say no.

Three kids came walking by before the supervisor had driven half a block away. Walking down the main street, not the sidewalk.

Kids do that in this town. That's why the speed limit is 15 mph on most of it.

The eldest commented how big the owlets were getting. As they walked on, the middle-sized kid just burst out "They sure are pretty!"

Felt like I had slipped into Pleasantville.
