wallet

A note to Terry Cabrera:

If you want it, your wallet is at the Sheriff's Office. Sorry, but if you had any money in it, it is gone. I tried delivering it to you after I found it Saturday morning, but there was no answer at the address listed on your driver's license, and the name on the door didn't match yours anyway. (But I recognized the name on the door... when did they move to that part of town?)

Tried looking you up in the phone book, but there are no Cabreras in town at all anymore.

I found your wallet just off the shoulder of the Hogback Road. My heelers and I had just finished checking the Scottys Peak strutting ground, and I gave them a brief running break before we got back onto the county road.

Actually fairly remarkable that I spotted it. It wasn't that close, but the low rays of the early morning sun were bouncing off the back. And perfectly rectangular rocks are rare here.

Don't know how long it'd been there, but the original brown is a faded grey now. A fair amount of silt inside, but a few papers were readable. (No, I didn't snoop... but I hung around while the Deputy sorted all the items. He's a friend...their second daughter was born hours before our second son, in the room next door. The mothers were racing their labors all day.) The color pic of you and your girl at the prom is a little water warped, but otherwise okay. (But can you tell me why neither of you looks happy at all?)

We know it hasn't been more than three years. Found the pink copies of two municipal citations you received in 1999. No one else's business what they were for, but I hope you found another path in life.

I am curious how your wallet came to be where I found it. Were you hunting, and lost it out of your pocket or truck? If so, you really should get farther off the public road. Were you out partying? If so, there are places closer to town. Or was it stolen, and the thieves just flipped it out the window after they rifled the cash? If so, then it appears they got away with the crime.

Sorry.
