slept in Rained and snowed most of yesterday. With only about 2cm of snow piling up on the lawns and roads. Driving was slick and just a little tricky retrieving youngest son from The Scorpion King" last night, a little before midnight. When I pulled up to the theater doors, he was leaning against the counter with Chuck, deep in conversation. Turns out he's trying to negotiate a summer job. Cool. Probably not great pay, but I suspect a fun place to work. His review on the movie? "Surprising to see the Rock can learn full sentences for his lines." So, anyway, the roads were slick, it was trying to snow some more, and the wind was still whipping. Been checking strutting grounds for 18 mornings straight, and gettin' a little tired. I didn't set the alarm. Woke up just a little after normal time anyway, and gave the heelers an out. Could have gotten ready and maybe checked a lek or two, but instead I went back to bed. Wife got up about an hour later, at her normal time, and gave the heelers another out. (They'll take all you give them.) "No paper," she said, as she got back into the bed. Means the highway north is probably closed. Felt a lot better about staying in bed. 'Course, now the sun is shining, the thin skiff of snow looks gorgeous (and non-treacherous) on everything, the Sunday paper is here, and I feel guilty for not going out. And deprived, for missing whatever adventures the morning would have brought. |
