teeth & the legislature

Here it is, Monday's almost over, and I have nothing to say. Would much rather write about the wife's day than mine.

Last night and much of today were spent crunching numbers. Doing the sort of work that could be done in 1.3 seconds if the program were written and all the data entered. And if I were always using five-year averages, rather than occassional three-year or four-year. And if we didn't change the limitations on hunter's deer and elk licenses every couple years or so.

The missing deer and elk tooth data arrived today, which consumed most of the evening. We had a 12-year old buck taken out of the desert, by one of our neighbors on his first hunt. With a muzzleloader (pretty good for a pre-teen).

And I see that Rimrock's cow elk was 12 years old. Have to ask him how she tasted. And should probably explain his nickname sometime, too. Badsnake would appreciate it... it has to do with the simple little fact that the path of the light you see through your rifle scope is not the path the bullet follows.

So, bored yet?

The youth group's trip to Capitol City went well. Despite the late start yesterday afternoon and ~20 miles of ground blizzard with icy roads, they got to the big city in time to meet the wife's, youngest son's and wife's godson's secret agenda... another viewing of The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring in a theater. (It left here weeks ago, and will probably not be back until just before the second installment is released.)

One of the other leaders was reportedly put out that they abandoned the group, but hey, you pull your son out for Tae Kwon Do tournaments, we'll pull ours out for what we feel is important.

In a great, renovated old theatre. With the curved CinemaScope screen (am I dating myself when I say I remember when that was the new thing?). Best of all, the lights did not come on when the credits started (take that, Chuck)... just some feeble neon walking lights. Boys thought that was incredibly cool.

Their trip to the legislature went well, also. Business in both the House and the Senate was stopped in order for the group to be introduced, with the three leaders by name. Sure the uniforms brought some of the attention, but I suspect it helped that the wife was along.

Watched the state news channel to see if I could catch them in the background shots, but no luck.

There was a high school group from a town a couple hours west of us also watching proceedings from the balcony. And the wife recognized one boy. Son of a former leader of our outfit, who works for the gas patch and got transferred. Took him a while to recognize her, but they had a nice visit when he did and came over.

When they call this state a "small town with looong streets", there is a reason.

One bored representative caught one boy staring at his computer screen from the balcony (the boy thought it was a game, but it was a screen saver), so he made a face at him.

The lad made one back. And later got a lecture from the other female leader. Gonna have to let him know that it was okay, and she was out of line.

Wife was strung out by the time they got home, more from the irritating driving habits of the other female driver than the trip or the boys. Heelers were needless to say thrilled that their Alpha was home.

With Arbies.
