home alone

Just dropped youngest son off at school. Off to a marching band contest in Central City. Won't be home 'til about midnight.

Caught him sewing this morning!

Really!

Their uniform required black pants. He told his Mom he probably needed new black jeans, but she thought they were okay. Apparently the knee was ripped out of the right leg, and she never knew.

So here he was, sewing away. Without any questions about "Do we have thread?" and "Where are the needles?"

I was impressed.

His sewing, however, left a little to be desired. Kind of sewed the material into a little black volcano on his knee. If you looked straight down the mouth, you could see skin in the middle.

It bothered him, I could tell. He subtly pulled it aside to look at as we drove to town. He is actually concerned about his appearance.

Wow.

We need to encourage this.

Slipped him an extra $20 to get a pair of new black jeans (yes, I know that's not enough, but hey, his Mom gave him money for the mall). He didn't complain about having to do his own shopping, either.

Growing up fast.

Wife left yesterday afternoon for elder son's college town. It's parent's weekend, and we figured he ought to have someone there to attend events. She promised to call ahead and let me know when they are going to take the little maskless heeler (she went along to see her boy in the Land of Pigmeat and Prime Rib) for a walk on the campus livecam.

So the masked heeler, her Mom and I are home alone.

Just realized I already forgot the heeler Mom's morning pill.

Hope we can handle this.
