Ferris sunset The south side of the Ferrises is not a bad place to be at sunset. The white limestone plates pick up the reds and oranges from the west (aided by smoke from fires) and seem to glow against the dark pine-covered hillsides of the mountain. Even at the base of the mountains we're high here. Almost 1000' above the basin below. Wonderful view of the shadows growing on the rims, cliffs and hills to the south. It's quiet. You can see traffic lights on the highway, but they're 10-15 miles away. And it's 11 miles of two-tracks and dirt road by headlights to get to asphalt. But still a great place to be at sunset. |
