concessions and credits

Hey, it's the 13th!

Already.

Spent much of the day running the concessions stand at the county fair... our group's turn. Only activity at the fair was the Mud Bogs, so not much action.

And technically, the fair was over yesterday. All the displays and livestock? Gone.

All the dozens and dozens of out-of-town folks living on the fairgrounds in trailers and buying meals at the concessions? Gone.

The big to-do in this county is the demolition derby, and that was last night. We used to always request derby night for our shift, so the boys could work and watch the cars crash at the same time, but the new crop would rather be in the stands, than watching through the arena.

And the absence of any livestock means the flies had only one place left to go. We kept four swatters busy.

Our main function today wasn't so much as to sell a lot of food and make money, as to sell off as much of the inventory as we possibly could so that we wouldn't be stuck buying it and eating it.

And we did that. No more pickles, no more hot dog buns, no more french fries (our 2nd big seller) and no more nachos cheese (that was the heart breaker for the crowd). Wiped out half the corn dogs, and a third of the burgers (and had six left on the grill at the end of the afternoon...guess whose heelers are happy about that).

Collected another Rhode Island quarter (a rarity out west here) and a Sacajawea. Otherwise spent most of the time doing dishes, and riding herd on the boys.

Oh, and drinking blue raspberry 7-Up.

I was gonna mention this a couple weeks ago and forgot. So now here it is.

Wife and I have been enjoying Six Feet Under almost from the beginning (but not quite), and we recently noticed one reason why.

Casting by Junie Lowry-Johnson.

I have no idea who Junie Lowry-Johnson is, except she did the casting on most of the Star Treks. Shows and films.

At least the good ones.

We know nobody in the entertainment business (except wife was in high school and thespians with Scott Bakula... does he count?), but we always watch the credits on every movie. Drives Chuck crazy, because he gets the lights on and sends in his crew to clean the theater as soon as the credits start, and there we are, sitting until the bitter end.

Giving him nasty looks about having the lights on.

But anyway, we've noticed Junie Lowry. And noticed when she married and became Junie Lowry-Johnson.

Six Feet Under is good. Like most Star Trek. And we give Junie some of the credit.

That's all.
