diaryring maintenance

Spent way too much time on dland this weekend. Barely got outside at all.

Decided it was time to go through and review the newer (as in past month or so) members of the quoted and unquoted diaryrings.

Maintaining these rings is a lot more time consuming than I expected. I'm tempted to just punt it all away, and let anyone who wants join either ring.

But no, I have too much of a sense of order for that kind of chaos. So the thinning began.

And lasted until after 0400 Saturday morning, and again until after 0300 this am. Silver finally gets on civilized hours and I start acting like a vampire.

Deleted a couple locked diaries right off the bat. Easy enough. Still don't know why they would even bother joining a ring, but assume maybe they joined first and then later locked their diaries (while on the subject, anyone know what's happening with Pischina?).

Threw one out because they were prominently linked with an animal rights terrorist group in Europe.

Really.

I am not a vegan, and in fact am occassionally a hunter. And killing is an unfortunate but regular part of my job (suspect that may be why my readership just dropped this week). But I like and sympathize with vegans as much as I do with most hunters. But advocating destructive criminal acts to get your way is wrong, no matter how noble your motives. So I hit delete on that one.

Deleted several that did not have the expected diaryring links. After more than two weeks. The first was hard, but the rest were quick. Don't analyze parasites when you find them, just pick them off and move on.

Had real problems with quite a few diaries with elaborate java script (or java errors) that wouldn't load in Netscape 4.5 or IE5. I understand these browsers are a generation old, but look at your sitemeters... IE5 is still the standard in the Dland world. A few of these I just deleted, but a couple were emailed with hopes they will either make their code multi-platform compatible, or remove themselves from the rings.

A few obviously just went into a diaryring frenzy and joined just about every ring. And were not qualified for the "Quoted" ring. Delete, and delete.

I have really gotta get out of here, and smell the outdoors. We've been getting rain regularly!
