Bear Watchers calling Bear Bait. over So we're home. Over 3,000 photos, and even more memories. But the most exciting (and 2nd-most frightening) was Saturday. The wife and I sitting below at Grinnell Lake (in the photo accompanying this news article) for several hours, all the while watching with binoculars and in touch by handheld radios with our two sons and daughter-in-law playing leap-frog on the Grinnell Glacier trail with a grizzly sow and two yearlings (presumably the ones mentioned in the article). Bears in front, then our hikers in front, then the bears run to the front again. All passes at close (<50-100m) quarters. The bears use the same trails as the people. Only much faster. And we below watching, unable to do anything except report on bear positions. When we knew them. Scary. The Park Service closed the trail, due to bear activity, while our kids were up at the glacier. |
