dreaming of pucks and stones

Geez, it's been a while since I updated.

But ain't the Olympics grand? It's been hard to walk away from the television. And I know I've watched more hockey in the past week than in the previous four years. Just a couple observations from the past week or so:

I like the snowboard and skiing cross events. (That's all. No complaints, or words of wisdom. I just like 'em, that's all.)

Did you notice that, while almost all the other events are marking their boundaries and lines with brightly dyed snow, the ski jump event still marks theirs with spruce boughs?

Cool.

Early in the men's figure skating, I mentioned to the wife that I would rather see somebody do a routine with perfect triples than quads with mistakes.

Apparently the judges feel the same way. Too bad for the Russian. And I don't care if Putin agrees with him.

And a request for whichever network may get to cover the next Winter Olympics in Sochi: I don't care at all to hear your experts talk. When they've got some technical detail to explain about the sports, or facilities, that's okay. But please do not waste my time and ears having them expound on what they think will happen, or who they think will win, or what they think some athlete's chances are.

I don't care what they think. We're going to find out soon enough. Just because you're bored with Women's Curling doesn't mean we are. If you're not going to be talking about what is happening on the ice in front of us, then please... shut up.

I'm perfectly fine listening to Chinese or Swedish chatter that I do not understand. (And yes, we've just been muting the TV when the idiots talk. But then you miss all the chatter, and gentle clunking of granite on granite...)

For those of you still checking in patiently, another shot from last month's bighorn sheep flight:

And if you're wondering... as of last Monday, all 24 of the radio-collared sheep were still up and about, doing what bighorns are supposed to do.
