hitting a grand After six years and ten days of sharing GrousePics, we have finally hit number 1,000. A whole grand of slightly enlarged images. So, for number 1,000, I have selected an appropriate subject... Grand Geyser. It is unfortunate that photos cannot convey all the other senses that we have. Else you would feel the ache in your feet from the hours spent walking the Upper Geyser Basin, the hardness of the benches where your butt has spent the last fifteen minutes waiting for an unusually lucky encounter with this erupting geyser. You would feel the rumble of the ground beneath your feet with every burst of steaming water. You would hear the oohs and aahs of the crowd, the gentle splatters of droplets onto the ground, and back into the pool. You would smell the tingling pleasance of the gentle aroma of Yellowstone's sulferous scent of Hades, mixed with the smell of pines in fall, and the smoke from not-so-distant forest fires. And the photo cannot bring forth the memory, at least four decades old, of chasing your father down these same boardwalks, racing to bear witness another eruption of this same geyser. |
