pondering a future We've kinda been hoping for this. Noticed after the wedding that youngest son was being a little quieter than normal. Going off by himself, to think. Presumably, hopefully, about his future. While his circle of friends have all moved on with their lives, to the new adventures that await young adults, his has been in idle. Not out of fear, or neglect, mind you. But because he felt the friends who also happen to be his bosses needed his help. And at not much more than minimum wage. Yet their own son, his best friend, chose not to come home to help the family business after he returned from Iraq. As I subtly tried to point out, if he doesn't need to give up his life's plans to help their balance sheet, why should you give up yours? One of the reasons we sent him to Seattle with the wife last month was to try to press his restart button. That, and the wedding, seems to have done the trick. On their drive back from DIA today, he let the wife know. He's planning to move. Out of state. Not the college plans he'd mentioned just a week or two ago. Not even the state he mentioned a week or two ago. The exact opposite direction we had expected him to want to move. But he is finally making plans for a future. Even if this one doesn't work out, It's a good thing. But we are dreading the empty nest. |
