sunset with the chief

Two hundred and eighty pounds.

That's what I delivered to the landfill today. Two hundred and eighty pounds of "household waste".

I.e., trash.

Yeah, it's been a while since I hauled our trash away. Been holding off until I could get a new battery and new tires on the truck.

But you can do that in the winter, here, 'cause frozen trash don't stink.

It just piles up.

And also, we've been doing some major cleaning of our clutter.

I gave up on recycling my office paper. That just never gets done. So the top half of the recycle pile went to filling landfill. The bottom papers of the top half of the pile were dated "May".

Of 1999.

Yeah, I don't really generate that much paper waste. Those pages still had the perforated strips along the side from the primitive pinwheel computer printers.

Olllld stuff, man.

Anyway, the heelers were thrilled for the ride. And the obligatory stop at McD's for two double cheeseburgers.

Plain.

And me, for once I remembered to bring the camera along. We caught sunset right at the edge of town.

'Course, you know what happens in a small town when you park along the highway just outside of town on a Sunday evening.

You get checked out by the Chief of Police.

So we had a nice visit. Caught up on most the town gossip. The two recent domestic disturbance calls on our street?

One has been resolved with the male half moving back to town. The other was resolved by that male half moving farther away.

Nevada, away.

He also has noticed the Hispanic kid walking the streets at all hours of the day and night, with droopy huge pants and the backwards baseball cap. Profiling, true, but totally atypical for our community.

But the Chief's not worried about him. He spotted the kid off by himself at almost midnight, one night last month.

Making snow angels in the park.

With that, the Chief nodded to the west, from the warm comfort of his car, "Your sunset is over."

That's alright.

I caught the best of it.
