patience and persistence Seven years is a long time. I've been writing in this journal for over seven years. And for longer than that, I have been searching the internet. Almost every day. Sometimes only for a minute or less out of a day. Sometimes for an hour or more. But after over seven years, it has become more than a habit. More than a ritual. It is an exploration. A means of selecting the strings of this worldwide web that I will wander down. Rarely finding that which I seek, but almost always finding something new, something interesting, something unexpected. And almost always, new webstrings to clamber down. All it takes is patience. And persistence. A lesson learned from some Iranian students almost thirty years ago. A lesson I can only hope our governmental officials have not forgotten. For I am certain Ahmadinejad has not. And every six months or so, that persistence is rewarded; I find a little piece of what I am seeking. It is probably no coincidence that schedule seems to match with the slow periods of my job. As was the case last night. I found exactly what I have been looking for all these years, just not where or how I expected. It was surprising. It was a thrill. It was satisfying. And I suppose I will begin anew tomorrow. Down another one of those unexplored strands. |
